Mental Health Week activities will be held across USQ's campuses |
The theme for Mental Health Week in Queensland is 'be active, get connected, stay involved’ and activities to raise awareness of mental health will occur at each campus.
A free BBQ will be held at each campus where information will be available on mental health, support services and career pathways in mental health.
Ms Joanne Boyes, a Psychologist from Student Services said that an event like this raises the awareness of mental health issues and wellbeing.
‘We are encouraging students and staff to be active in looking after their mental and physical health and to get help and/or information if they need it - it is important to get connected with your community and stay involved with those around you.’
Additionally, other activities and information will be available across each campus as part of Mental Health Week.
The USQ Fraser Coast Mental Health Week day will also focus on careers in mental health.
Careers counsellor Jenny Gunn said the campus offered programs which could lead to jobs helping people with mental health issues. These include degrees in nursing, psychology and human services (counselling).
USQ Springfield Student Services will have an information stall located in the foyer of building A where students can obtain free pens, puzzles, book marks, balloons and tip sheets on useful strategies to deal with the stress of studying, time management and anxiety.
USQ Toowoomba Student Services offers many services to assist students including a bulk billed GP service for enrolled USQ students, personal and career counselling, disability support, scholarship, financial and accommodation support as well as assistance with equity issues.
The USQ Student Guild provides facilities and services for the benefit and welfare of USQ students, staff, and the wider community.
The events are being supported by Overseas Student Health Care (OHSC) Worldwide, Queensland Health, Beyond Blue and SANE Australia.
More information on USQ's Mental Health Week activities can be found at the Student Services website.
