Contemporary video art workshop to be held in Toowoomba

The Kingpins will feature in the workshop

An acclaimed video art workshop designed to make contemporary art more attractive to secondary school students will be held at USQ in August.

The MOVE Exhibition, currently on show at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane until August 8, features 12 works by well-known Australian artists.

The exhibition is accompanied by a series of workshops that will travel to parts of Queensland, bringing the work to school and tertiary students.

USQ Collections Curator and Arts Management Associate Lecturer, Simon Mee, said the University was one of only six venues in Queensland to host the workshops.

'The free workshops will be run by the Queensland Art Gallery curatorial staff from Cinematheque, who have a detailed knowledge of this particular area of arts practice,' Mr Mee said.

Showcased in the workshop include artworks by Daniel Crooks, Sean Gladwell, The Kingpins, Todd McMillan, Jessica MacNeil, Travey Moffatt, TV Moore, Patricia Piccinini, David Rosetsky, Grant Stevens, John Tonkin and Daniel Von Sturmer.

The artwork can be shown or projected on video screens, with the aim of evoking a range of emotions. The result is an important overview of recent video practice in this country, which underlines the established status of the medium.

'This is a great opportunity to introduce students to contemporary video art,' Mr Mee said.

The secondary school workshops will be held on August 26 between 11am and 12pm and the tertiary workshops between 1pm and 2pm.

Bookings can be made through USQ School of Creative Arts Hub on 4631 5372 or 4631 5372.
