The new program will help address the skills shortage

The Faculty of Engineering and Surveying recently joined with local industry in Toowoomba to launch their exciting new construction program.
The Associate Degree of Construction and the Bachelor of Construction, with a major in Management, will prepare students to undertake important roles in the future development of Queensland and Australia’s built environment. The new programs will be offered on-campus at both the Toowoomba and Springfield campuses and will also be available by distance education.
Professor Ron Ayers said the new programs will help address the skills short in the construction area and will be offered by the Faculty from semester 1, next year.
'The new programs are considered to go some way towards addressing looming skill shortages which will occur with the Surat Basin developments in the Toowoomba region, and the planned growth of the western corridor in the Springfield/Ipswich area,’ he said.
Professor Ayers said the launch ceremony in Toowoomba was extremely successful, with industry welcoming the new programs.
'A successful launch in Toowoomba saw representatives from most of Toowoomba’s leading building consulting and construction firms join with representatives from state and local government departments, to consider how they might be involved in the new programs by way of scholarships, cadetships and the provision of industrial experience to students.'
