Drawings by USQ lecturer Simon Mee will feature in an exhibition at the Gold Coast City Gallery this month (August).
The Nobody Knows exhibition presents new paintings and works on paper by Toowoomba artist and USQ academic, Simon Mee, as well as talented Queensland artist Anne Wallace and Melbourne-based Rob McHaffie, who are known for their evocative and ambiguously themed artworks.
Mr Mee, who conceived the exhibition, said the paintings told strange stories and acted as imaginary previews to the humours and dark experiences felt and shared by the three artists.
'A curator is meant to be objective, in this case however I feel I am the exact opposite,' Mr Mee said.
'I have deliberately indulged my personal delight and pleasure in working with two artists whose work I enjoy.'
Mr Mee exhibits extensively and is a recipient of a Queensland Creative Fellowship, the Logan Art Award and the Churchie Emerging Art Prize.
He is also an Associate Lecturer in Collections Curator and Arts Management at USQ.
Rob McHaffie’s works have featured in the Primavera Exhibition at the MCA and he is represented in the collection of the Queensland Art Gallery.
Anne Wallace is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarship and the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Sulman Prize.
The exhibition is being held at the Gold Coast City Gallery, The Arts Centre Gold Coast, 135 Bundall Road Surfers Paradise, until August 15.
