Strong interest in construction management
Ashley Muller explores studying at Springfield |
USQ Springfield staff recorded strong interest in the
Bachelor of Construction (Management) at the University’s annual Open Day in late August.
Offered for the first time this year, the degree is designed for people wanting to coordinate the construction of large and complex projects including housing developments, hotels, factories, office blocks and schools.
'There has been a lot of development in south-east Queensland over the past decade and that trend is expected to continue well into the future,' said Director of Construction Management Studies at USQ Springfield, Dr Vasantha Abeysekera.
'Graduates could secure positions as construction project managers, site managers, estimators or construction planners with relevant work experience.'
'Currently we have over 50 students some joining straight from school and others with industry experience. Those with trade qualifications and industry experience could expect to receive exemption for some courses.'
Dr Abeysekera said a major drawcard for the degree is the opportunity to secure higher salaries as there is significant shortage of qualified graduates.
USQ
Springfield Campus Director, Doug Fraser, said there was also a strong interest in the
Bachelor of Education (Sport, Health and PE), to be offered for the first time in 2012.
'The degree is much more than a health and PE degree, but it does have a primary and secondary stream, so those looking to teach will have a teaching qualification at the end of their studies.
'But we are also expecting a lot of interest from professional coaches looking to improve their skills and those looking to teach and coach popular sports, dance, gymnastics, fitness and recreational activities.'
Mr Fraser said 700 prospective students attended the annual event.
'Open Day at USQ Springfield provides prospective students with an opportunity to look around the campus, speak to lecturers and meet the support staff who will guide them through their studies.
'A key attraction this year was a kid’s Funland with face-painting, balloon art and giant board games and information sessions in Arts, Business and Law, Education, Engineering and Surveying and Sciences.'
'Future students can also phone 1800 269 500 for more information from Monday to Friday (8am to 5pm) or visit the campus anytime during business hours.'
