Students acknowledged for extra-curricular activities
Juggling full time study, work and extra-curricular activities may be tough for students to manage each year.
In recognition of the myriad activities many students undertake whilst at university, the USQ Student Guild launched the Phoenix Award in 2007 and has been encouraging students to get the formal recognition for their efforts ever since.
'The personal development program is designed to help USQ students recognise and develop their graduate attributes and employability skills,' Phoenix Award Coordinator Carley Wagner said.
'These activities may include paid or volunteer work, attending LTSU or public workshops and seminars, completing first aid courses or getting involved in committees or clubs.
'Throughout October, the Guild held presentation ceremonies on each campus to acknowledge the students who have completed the award in 2010. This included Springfield’s first Phoenix Award recipient, Vinod Eda.
'Attended by USQ staff and friends and family of the students’, the ceremonies paid tribute to the efforts students make to challenge themselves and increase their employability,' Ms Wagner said.
The Phoenix Award Program is available to students on all three campuses and is also available to distance education students. For more information, please visit www.phoenixaward.com.au or contact Carley Wagner on (07) 4631 1588.
