Students will be able to complete the Pearson Test of English at Open Access College |
The Pearson Test of English will provide people with a choice of English language proficiency tests for education and VISA purposes upon governmental approval – providing an alternative to the established IELTS test.
Mr David Bull, Director of the Open Access College said that this testing centre would provide an important service to the region and the University.
'The PTE will provide a cheaper and more convenient alternative for people needing an English proficiency test.' Mr Bull said.
'The test is being developed and backed by the publishing giant, Pearson and is being established all over the world.
'The testing facilities we have at USQ are to Pearson’s high standards and contain many measures to ensure that cheating and other negative behaviour cannot happen.'
The Federal Government is expected to confirm the PTE as an accepted English language test in the near future which will break IELTS monopoly in the industry.
Many regional organisations outside of USQ use English Language tests for their staff and a centre in Toowoomba will provide a crucial service for them.
'Currently people wanting to take the tests have to book weeks in advance and travel to Brisbane. With this testing centre, waiting times and travel time will be cut.'
'Students will undertake a three hour online test in a controlled environment which will be monitored and recorded with latest technology testing devices and fully trained staff.'
The equipment was installed by Pearson with the assistance of USQ Facilities and ICT.
