Rhonda Burchmore sings with USQ Big Band

Legendary Australian entertainer, Rhonda Burchmore will appear with the Ergon Engery USQ Big Band on Saturday 3 October from 8pm in the Empire Theatre.

After 25 years in the industry, Rhonda has established a firm reputation as one of the nation’s most versatile and in-demand performers.

Her unstoppable energy, coupled with a passion for performing continues to engage audiences of all ages and it's no wonder she remains at the top with her engaging stage presence and diverse repertoire.

From television to the big screen, musical theatre to opera, cabaret to the stage, there are few entertainment mediums Rhonda has not embraced.

Throughout her career she has made a distinctive impression on audiences with her stunning voice, dazzling dance steps and effervescent personality.

The multi-award winning entertainer has appeared in countless stage productions including most recently, The Boyfriend, Mame and Mamma Mia! for which she received a Green Room nomination; danced her way into our hearts in David Atkins’ hits Dancin’ Man and Hot Shoe Shuffle; and won audiences over with her superb comic timing in television shows such as Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, The Mike Walsh Show and the Don Lane Show.

No stranger to the Big Band genre; Rhonda regularly performs with her own Big Band who also feature on her self-titled album.

'Big Bands are my specialty; I have worked with many and have many wonderful memories,' said Rhonda.

'I adore the jazz and blues sounds of Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Peggy Lee, Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan.'

Rhonda will join the USQ Big Band, under the direction of Martin Crook to singing Sway, Fly Me to the Moon, Fever, L-O-V-E, Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans, Can't Buy Me Love, Too Darn Hot, For Once in My Life, Big Spender and At Last.

'At Last is a special favourite of mine; it is a beautiful song and arrangement.'

Rhonda visits Toowoomba fresh from a season of The Boyfriend in Melbourne and from the recent filming of new Australian romantic comedy, Kin due for release at the 2010 Melbourne Film Festival.

This will be a rare opportunity for Queensland audiences to see Rhonda live in concert in the sunshine state.

'The last time I visited Toowoomba, it was for a fund-raising event with a small band but this time it’s going to be huge!'

A mix of instrumental and vocal numbers, the concert will also include Big Band standards Tuxedo Junction, Route 66, Bohemian Rhapsody, Bye Bye Blackbird, Harlem Nocturne, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Cleaning Lady Blues and Macarthur Park.
