More than 140 USQ representatives laced up their sneakers and stepped out to support a great cause earlier this month.

The USQ students and staff from various faculties, offices and departments joined more than 1500 people at the Toowoomba Showgrounds to mark the ninth annual Toowoomba Relay for Life event.

Joining his University colleagues once in the 18-hour trek to raise funds for the Queensland Cancer Council was Toowoomba Relay for Life patron and USQ Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Bill Lovegrove.

USQ Corporate Functions and Protocol Officer, Ms Jacqui Healy, said the University had raised an 'excellent amount' - an estimated $10,000 - during the fundraising event.

By the end of this week, teams across Toowoomba are expected to have raised more than $110,000, which would make this year’s Relay for Life the largest in the city in at least four years.

The USQ teams consisted of staff from the USQ Student Guild, Student Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Human Resources, Facilities Management, the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and the Library.
