The overall winners were the Ipswich Girls Grammar school

A stunning performance by the Ipswich Girls Grammar team on Wednesday saw them take out the overall prize at the Regional Science and Engineering Challenge at USQ.

The team who competed on day two of the competition scored 1890 points, well clear of their competitors.

Ms Mary McGilvray, the USQ Challenge Coordinator, said that students were very excited and the teachers were very proud of their students.

“They displayed great teamwork and enthusiasm and certainly deserved the win,” Ms McGilvray said.

The Ipswich Girls Grammar team also took out the Team Spirit award on Wednesday.

Ipswich Girls Grammar will compete in the Super Challenge against teams from Brisbane and New South Wales.

The competition also continued on Friday with eight teams from around the region competing.

Heidi Gra, Elsa Radford, Claire Flegler and Heidi Markey from The Glennie School were enjoying the activities – particularly The Dish challenge.

‘We are creating a satellite dish to try and find fire signals,” Elsa said.

‘It is very challenging but we are having fun,’ Heidi Markey said.

There are a variety of challenges that the students take part in across the Challenge.

‘I am really looking forward to trying the Biobot activity where you create a hand that has to do particular activities,’ Claire said.

‘This has been great fun and I really hope to be able to study engineering after school,’ Heidi Gra said.

Students from Downlands College took out the final day’s competition.
