Student shouts out for climate change
USQ student Vincent Parisi is a promising young cinematographer who recently put his film skills to good use when he entered the nationwide Shout out for Climate Change competition to promote climate change awareness.
Results for the competition were recently released naming Vincent’s 30 second advertisement in the top six short films nationally. He also received a Highly Commended for his piece titled Cut the Carbon, Cure the Climate.
Vincent said he decide to entre the competition after his sister sent him the link advertising the event.
'My sister first sent me a link advertising the shout out comp and I thought 1st prize was brilliant- a four week internship at a creative agency- so I thought I would give it a go,' he said.
'My sister works in marketing and helped with the marketing concept, which part of the criteria. My friends Sheng and Joe Guiso were also great; I should give a shout out to them for helping out in the shoot.'
The competition was launched in May this year and provides young film makers, actors, directors, advertising executive with an opportunity to showcase their talents, creative flair along with their passion for the environment.
'I started to become interested in film a few years ago, they just commenced a film and TV subject at my high school and a few friends and I joined. My interest grew from this point, I would try and watch as many films as i could and learn as much as I could.'
The competition is an Australian Government initiative and was open to primary students, secondary students and tertiary students. More than 2,300 students submitted entries ranging from songs, poems, photograph or pieces of artwork (primary students) to an original video advertisement (secondary and tertiary students).
