USQ has been placed in the top five universities in the nation and first in Queensland in a new survey on student satisfaction.

USQ placed fourth in the national survey conducted by Melbourne-based group Sweeney research, which surveyed 5000 students from 30 Australian universities using online questionnaires and 10 focus groups.

The University finished behind only the University of Wollongong, Australian National University and La Trobe University and was placed ahead of the Queensland University of Technology that rounded out the top five.

USQ Vice Chancellor Bill Lovegrove said that the survey results were a reflection on the dedication and hard work of staff at the University and the quality of courses that were on offer.

'This is a great result for the University and is a direct result of our commitment to our students, which has always been USQ's number one priority,' Professor Lovegrove said.

'Over the past few weeks we have received a significant increase in the number of students applying to enrol at USQ. The feedback we're getting is that students are hearing about the good things we're doing and the high level of support we offer across all our campuses and modes of study.

'Our objective at USQ is to be student centred and with the formation of a new Student Management Division (SMD) and other organisational changes that have taken place in recent times we are always mindful of our responsibility in making the student learning journey enjoyable and memorable.

'The courses and programs on offer at USQ continue to be relevant for the modern day student and this also adds to the positive student experience at USQ.

'The support we give students very much shapes how they see the world, how they interact with others and how they might influence those around them,' Professor Lovegrove said.

USQ has also been at the forefront of developments in open and flexible education which provides the key for achieving effective lifelong learning.

The survey was the first of its kind to be conducted by Sweeney, with the research group planning to repeat the evaluation every two years.
