Sue Craig is the new Director, Library Services

Sue originally started at USQ in 2002, joining us from the University of Wollongong. She stayed for a few years before moving to the Middle East to manage a library and learning centre, but family commitments brought her back to USQ 18 months later, joining DAIS and the Rubric project.

Her time in the Rubric project took Sue away from traditional library work into digital repository systems, but later moves to the Deputy Director of DeC and Acting Director of DAIS provided responsibility of the library.

'I have worked in several libraries in the past and have been fortunate to work in a range of other roles at USQ. Working in a variety of areas has given me a wider university vision and I think this will benefit the Library strategically,' Sue said.

Moving to take over the library will prove to be a lofty task due to the success of the library after the USQ Library was named as the top-ranked library in Australia according to the InSync Library Client Satisfaction Survey in 2008 and 2010. Marrying this success and managing the changes that the sector faces in the coming years will undoubtedly be a challenge – one Sue is looking forward to.

'I will certainly be looking to focus on the future and to implement that vision.

Sue intends to build upon the library’s excellent reputation and the ongoing support it gives to USQ’s research and learning and teaching programs, as well as to our community outreach activities.

'Whether you study on-campus or via distance, the library is ‘your place’ to study and to make sure that happens, in both the physical and virtual environments is critical to our success.'

Sue naturally puts in a lot of time and effort to USQ but she also has a passion for travel.

'I have a son who lives in London and I lived in the Middle East for a while and I love seeing new places.

'Travelling actually led to another hobby and I am now researching my family history.

'I have been able to trace my family history back to the 1600s and found some interesting facts like that I have a couple of Irish convicts in the family!

'Not only has my research into the past unearthed some interesting family stories, it has also put me back in touch with some long lost family members.'

Sue formally started her Director’s role in December 2010.
