Principal artist-in-residence announced

Internationally recognised watercolourist, David Taylor has been named as the first Principal Artist-In-Residence in the 37-year history of USQ’s McGregor Summer School.

Mr Taylor has been teaching watercolour painting since the sixties.  He has received over 100 awards, including the Gold Medal at the Camberwell Rotary Exhibition in 2002, and the Victorian Artists Society Artist of the Year Award in 1976, 1980 and 1989.

Mr Taylor has also received the Distinguished Leadership Award for outstanding services to Watercolour and Teaching and a Certificate of Merit for Services to the Community.   He is regularly involved in tutoring for the Australian and International Artist magazines.

Mr Taylor, who has recently released a book and video, Solving the Mystery of Watercolour, with outstanding results, said he loves to help others learn the art of the medium at workshops run on his property and also at many other leading organisations in Australia and abroad.

“I like to give something back to art by assisting and helping others learn more about this wonderful and expressive medium,” Mr Taylor said.

He said his classes at the 2005 McGregor Summer School would explore the creative and elusive qualities of watercolour, while encouraging individuality, spontaneity and freshness.

“The atmosphere will be relaxed and harmonious, questions, and class reaction to given subjects will be encouraged and   several of the classes will be held outdoors,” Mr Taylor said.

At the school, to be held from 10 to 21 January, Mr Taylor will also give a public seminar, titled The Life and Work’s of David Taylor, in the McGregor College Dinning Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday 18 January 2005.

Over the years the McGregor Summer School has established itself as the premier residential performing, visual and creative arts learning experience in Australia.

Each year more than one third of the hundreds of students attending the Summer School have attended at least once before.

Mr Taylor will be one of up to 60 Artists-In-Residence who will be teaching visual, creative and performing arts at the school.
