Presentation explains carbon pricing to business

Professor Ulrich Nissen will speak
on the impact of carbon pricing to
business on Thursday 28 July at
USQ Springfield campus
between 5pm and 7pm.

Local business and anyone interested in the impact of carbon pricing and the rising cost of energy are invited to attend a presentation by Professor Ulrich Nissen, a visiting German business and energy expert on Thursday, 28 July from 5pm to 7pm.

The presentation, titled ‘Carbon Pricing and Natural Price of Energy - How Companies can Prepare Themselves for an Increased Impact of Energy Costs?’ will be held in the Springfield campus Auditorium with light refreshments served from 5pm.

USQ’s Australian Centre for Sustainable Business Development (ACSBD) Director Professor John Cole said Professor Nissen is highly regarded in the field and has an expertise in product calculation, energy management and specifically the integration of energy management into management accounting.

'Companies have been facing a tremendous energy price rise evolution for the past ten years,' Professor Cole said.

'It is very likely this trend is going to continue. The price rises will have a significant impact on the cost structure of companies - the energy cost share will more than double over the next decade even without a carbon tax.

'Sooner or later the energy costs of every company will reach an activation threshold that will trigger comprehensive energy cost saving investigations and measures.

'Government led carbon pricing activities will accelerate such an evolution.'

'Professor Nissen will explore this shift and the major barriers to business energy efficiency improvements during his presentation.

'With carbon pricing now on the political agenda this presentation is ‘don’t miss’ opportunity for local business and those interested in what the coming changes will mean to them.'
