Update to Twilight Recital Line-Up

Dr Phillip Gearing will stand in
for Dr Marilyn Meier-Kapavale at
USQ's next Twilight Recital

A last minute line-up change to Ensemble A250 will see popular local musician, Dr Phillip Gearing stand in for Dr Marilyn Meier-Kapavale at USQ’s next Twilight Recital (20 April).

A recently diagnosed illness has left Dr Meier-Kapavale unable to appear at the recital. Taking her place at the piano will be her colleague and USQ Head of Music, Dr Phillip Gearing.

One of Australia’s most noted organ recitalists and Director of Music at St Luke’s Anglican Church, Toowoomba, Dr Gearing is also an accomplished chamber musician.

'While organ music is my first calling, I particularly enjoy performing as a pianist in chamber music and lieder,' Dr Gearing said.

'I have had the pleasure of partnering a number of international performers in the past including Canadian clarinettist James Campbell, Hungarian violinist Josef Aronoff and British cellist Penelope Lynex.

'This is, however, a somewhat bittersweet occasion as my chance to revisit chamber music arises from sad circumstances.'

The Twilight Ensemble Recital will see Dr Gearing take the stage with consummate local clarinettist, Martin Crook and Matthew Kinmont, Associate Principal Cellist with the Queensland Orchestra.

The trio will perform two classical masterworks for clarinet, cello and piano; Rachmaninoff’s beautiful yet mournful Vocalise and Alexander von Zemlinsky’s unashamedly romantic Trio.

Also on the program will be French composer Pierre Poulteau’s quirky Sonatine for clarinet and cello duo.

The one-hour recital will commence at 6pm on Wednesday 20 April in the USQ Arts Theatre.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 concession, $13 student, $8 child and can be purchased through the USQ Artsworx Box Office on 07 46 31 1111. Tickets will also be available at the door prior to the recital.

This recital is proudly hosted by the USQ Faculty of Engineering and Surveying.
