A new social club for International Postgraduate students was officially launched on Wednesday, 8th April by its patron, Professor Frank Bullen, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Dean of Engineering.

The opening was attended by over 30 students and staff, and Dean of Arts and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Goodall and Director of the Open Access College, David Bull.

The club is intended to support international students during their time at USQ, both during English language courses and their more formal discipline based studies.

The social club's wide spectrum of planned future events has something for everyone, ranging from visits to the zoo and Brisbane to social scrabble.

Professor Bullen said that the club is a chance for students to augment the development of their language skills in a more informal setting where students could mix across many ethnic groups.

The club is intended to fill the gap between the technical language the students learn at USQ and the jargon and more informal language they will encounter in the wider Toowoomba community.

The club will also include family activities, as Professor Bullen said, "International Postgraduate students are a very different cohort compared to undergraduates as they are typically older and, often in the case of research students, have their families with them."

Future family activities include day trips to the Gold Coast, Australia Zoo and Brisbane.

The next meeting of the IPSC will be an informal coffee and chat session, and will be held at 4pm on Thursday, 24th April in K302.

All International Post-graduate students are welcome to attend. For more information, please see Angela or Gill in K311 or call 4631 2943.
