An artist who combines her love of music with her artistic talent has become the USQ Photography Department’s inaugural Art Student of the Month.

Kaitlyn Crist, a third-year Bachelor of Visual Arts student, said her ultimate aim was to travel and create art worldwide.

'The works I create are autobiographical in that I am attempting to explain a constructed notion of the space that I inhabit and things I have a daily exchange with,' Kaitlyn said.

'The resulting chaotic work embodies feelings of anxiety which are a central component of my conceptual methodology and thus are not just ugly but also beautiful, as I want to embrace this anxiety as a part of me and the work made.'

USQ senior photographer Liza Mattiazzi said the department was regularly photographing artworks of School of Creative Arts (SOCA) students for assessments, exhibitions or personal folios.

'As we are looking to continue our close working relationship with the students, the Photography Department will select a feature artist every month to feature in their 2D gallery space,' Ms Mattiazzi said.
