Each year USQ present learning and teaching awards that recognise the outstanding and innovative contribution staff make to the University. Last year USQ recognised a number of staff from a variety of disciplines who demonstrated excellence in teaching.
Dr Janet McDonald and Dr Darryl Chalk from the School of Creative Arts (Faculty of Arts) were the only submission to receive USQ's Award for Teaching Excellence.
Dr McDonald said being recognised for their work was encouraging and confirmed their approach to teaching was both innovative and successful.
'Receiving the award was a nice acknowledgement for years of building firm rapport with students in the Theatre discipline of the Bachelor of Creative Arts.. Our theatre graduates are unique and successful in the real world because of our approach to education and our teaching philosophy,' she said.
'We regularly get positive feedback from our students and graduates about how our development of social justice, critical thinking skills and empathy have put them at an advantage in the arts sector, so receiving the award cements the fact that we are doing something right.'
Other awards presented across the University include:
USQ Award for Programs and Services that Enhance Learning

• Mr Stephen Smith for USQMUM: Mentors Upskilling Men Program (Faculty of Education)
USQ Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning
