USQ Learning & Teaching Week

L&T week was held at USQ earlier this month

The second, USQ Learning and Teaching Week was held 2-6 February 2009, with a theme of ‘The First year University experience'.
It was launched by Professor Lynne Hunt (PVC L&T), who noted that USQ has much of which to be proud in its learning and teaching achievements including an increasing number of ALTC grants and the development of staff incentive schemes such as USQ Senior and Associate Fellowships and award and citation winners at faculty, USQ, professional association and national levels.
During the launch of USQ Learning and Teaching Week, recent award winners were inducted into the new USQ Teaching Academy which, Professor Hunt explained, 'provides opportunities for successful applicants to network and to build opportunities for collaborative research into learning and teaching in higher education.'
Professor Bill Lovegrove observed that initiatives such as Learning and Teaching Week, and incentive schemes are 'now reaping dividends in staff careers and that an analysis of last year's promotions showed that those weighting teaching highly did well in the process.'
Learning and Teaching Week profiled a keynote and workshop by Bill Johnston, University of Strathclyde and the week's activities provided opportunities to showcase the work of USQ Teaching Fellows, as well as the outcomes of USQ Community of Practice work, with the launch of the First Year Infusion (FYI) Toolkit.
For two days of Learning and Teaching Week, USQ staff participated in a 400 strong ‘First Year Symposium' in Brisbane at which the USQ staff were strongly represented.
Some 30 USQ staff attended. Professor Hunt provided a keynote, Professor Janet Taylor conducted a workshop, and USQ staff were well represented in the poster presentations. Dr Jill Lawrence's work received special mention for its sensitive approach to student learning.
If you missed any of these events, recordings/interviews/videos and photos are now available on the Learning & Teaching Website
