One of Australia's foremost engineering academics addressed USQ as part of a Professorial Lecture Series at the University.
Professor Doug Hargreaves who is the Head of School of Engineering Systems at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and the next National President of Engineers Australia visited USQ to speak on his experiences both as an engineering academic and his work within the engineering profession.
Engineers Australia is the national peak body for all engineering disciplines, working with government, industry and tertiary education providers to promote engineering as a discipline.
'Along with his position at QUT, Professor Hargreaves is also a mechanical engineer who has published over 100 referred papers and in excess of 30 papers on engineering education,' USQ Engineering lecturer and Professorial Lecture organiser Steven Goh said.
'He has also been President of the Queensland chapter of Engineers Australia and is currently the National Deputy President of Engineers Australia, a body he will become National President of later this year.
'All of the staff in Engineering and Surveying enjoyed his visit.'
With Professor Hargreaves having a hectic schedule, Mr Goh said that he was not expecting the Professor to accept his invitation to come and speak at the University and was ecstatic that he accepted.
'Professor Hargreaves is a very busy person, so when I sent the invitation I was not expecting a yes,' Mr Goh said.
'The fact that he travelled up to Toowoomba to speak at the University speaks volumes about the calibre of USQ.'
This was the third in a series of Professorial Lectures to be put on by USQ's Engineering and Surveying faculty with a further four to be held throughout the year.
Visiting American academic Dr Norman Fortenberry, Director of the Centre for Advancement of Scholarship for Engineering Education also spoke at the University on the same day.
