Learn how to speak in public at USQ Springfield campus

Do you tremble and break out in a sweat at the thought of speaking to a group? Are you unsure how to structure a speech or would you like to become skilled at giving a spontaneous speech?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then the University of Southern Queensland's (USQ) Springfield campus Speakers Club is for you.

Club organiser Dr Kate Lemerle said the new club, meeting every second Monday from 12.30pm to 1.30pm was open to both staff and students.

'We have started the club to help staff and students wanting to improve their confidence and skills in public speaking,' Dr Lemerle said.

'At each meeting there will be a mix of demonstrated, prepared speeches that members will evaluate.

'There will also be some practice of specific speaking skills such as managing anxiety, structuring your speech and using techniques such as humour or persuasion.

'Members will also have opportunities to practice a presentation they may be preparing.

'All staff and students are warmly invited to come along and join the club. There is no joining fee, and the only requirement is motivation to become a better speaker.

'It is really a great opportunity to practice your public speaking skills in a non-threatening and encouraging environment.'
