A term that will be common-place around USQ over the coming months is AUQA.
The Australian Universities Quality Agency will be visiting the university in June this year as part of an audit cycle that will examine among other things how the University has responded to recommendations from its initial audit in 2002. Other areas in which the AUQA audit team will be reviewing USQ's operations will be in Internationalisation and Program Design and Delivery.
After USQ's first AUQA audit the university put in place eight priority goals centred on improving the quality of the student learning journey, research and research training and aspects of internationalisation all aimed at improving the quality and management of the university. Already many staff are involved in the preparations for the audit with a number of reports and documents being prepared to assist the AUQA team in their assessments.
Over the next few weeks regular updates on how USQ is preparing for the AUQA visit will be given. AUQA assesses universities by benchmarking best practice examples and advising on how universities might improve their business and teaching practices. AUQA commendations can lead to increased enrolments and funding for research and teaching programs.
To help staff across the university understand how they can contribute to AUQA and assist the University as it prepares for the team's visit a number of staff have volunteered as AUQA Advocates to help communicate information about AUQA within their sections, departments and faculties. Advocates will act as contact points throughout the university and will be available to lead discussion and exchange ideas on how USQ can best address the needs of the AUQA audit. The names of staff who have volunteered to be Advocates will be made available within the next two weeks.
