Sciences take out Bocce title
The crazy Boccolism Sisters from the Faculty of Sciences had the skills and style to help the Faculty win the gold medal at The Big Bocce Game on Thursday 24 April 2008.
Around 30 staff members from Student Administration, Student Services, Residential Colleges and the Education, Sciences and Engineering and Surveying faculties took part in the competition on the grass between Y and Z blocks.
'This is the second time we've held the tournament,' Admissions Officer and organiser of the day Ms Raeleen Cahill said.
'Bocce is something everyone can be involved in. It allows staff to have a bit of fun. On the phone you talk to people but you often don't get to meet them face-to-face.
'We've had one tournament before and are hoping to have them quarterly.'
Teams involved enjoyed a laugh and BBQ and were supported by the highly energetic and vocal cheer squad.
ANZAC was the theme of the day with a Victoria Cross (VC) making an appearance and a Regimental aid Out Post (ROP) marker.
Student Services and the Faculty of Education shared second place.
Faculty of Sciences Boccolism Sister Sandra Lammas said winning the game was definitely a career highlight.
'It's a really uplifting experience to represent the Faculty at such a prestigious event,' Mrs Lammas said.
'Today the Olympic flame is travelling through Australia and we feel we are a part of that.'
