Spaghetti towers and skeletons popular at Open Day

Hervey Bay's Dirk and Marivick Kraak managed to support almost a kilogram of rice on a stand they built from spaghetti during the USQ Fraser Coast Open Day on Sunday 27 July 2008.

The Spaghetti Challenge was one of the many activities conducted during the day which drew crowds to the campus to learn about programs and life as a USQ Fraser Coast student.

Many of the younger patrons were drawn to the Department of Science nursing wards and labs to see the body parts display.

The Science faculty also conducted mock cardiac arrest demonstrations lead by USQ Toowoomba Senior Lecturer Geoff Wilson.

A library hunt encouraged children to learn the various sections of the Hervey Bay Regional Library which is one of only two in Australia that act as a joint-use facility between a university and a regional council.

Visitors were entertained by local singers and the Ergon Energy USQ Big Band, from Toowoomba throughout the day.
