Scholarships
USQ offers over 100 scholarships and bursaries for new and continuing students, whether you are studying on- or off-campus. Scholarships may take the form of money or assistance with accommodation, and the aim of scholarships is to help you to concentrate on your academic performance. Apply for as many as you want as long they are relevant to your circumstances.
Government assistance
Centrelink provides financial assistance for students studying full-time, part-time or looking for work. Most students, depending on their current situation, will be eligible to obtain a Health Care Card. This card entitles the holder to obtain large discounts (subsidies) on medical prescriptions
Part-time work
While you may need to work to support yourself, try not to take on too much. If you are studying full-time (usually four courses per semester) then you will find that most courses require you to dedicate 12 hours of study time per course per week.
Do not let your part-time job become your main concern. After all, your real career will begin after you finish your degree. Enjoy yourself and make sure that you allocate enough time for study, work and an active social life.
Student Services runs an online employment service - CareerHub which advertises casual jobs. You will need your student number and USQConnect password to login.
Budgeting
Handling your finances will be one of the most important issues you will have during your study years. Surviving on limited resources can be tough work and can be very stressful. That's why it's a good idea to create a budget.
A Welfare Officer is available at Student Services to help you with your finances, Centrelink information etc. Enrolled students can see the Welfare Officer free of charge.
Cost of living
If you intend to study on-campus, it is important to keep in mind what your time at university may cost, in terms of living expenses such as accommodation, text book purchases and travel.
