The thirteen schools provide curriculum and industry partnership in wine science, agriculture, horticulture, hospitality, tourism and business leading to career pathways in the wine tourism Industry. The Gateway Schools link closely with QCWT through programs such as ‘Young Winemakers'.

Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE (SQIT)

SQIT is the lead agency for wine tourism vocational education and training in Queensland, and offers Cert II and Cert III in food processing (wine). Some of the areas this covers are wine tourism; wine processing; grape growing (for wine) - viticulture. SQIT Stanthorpe also offers hospitality, tourism, business, aged care, and responsible service of gaming; these can range from Certificate II to the Diploma. University of Southern Queensland (USQ)

USQ provides tertiary education and research programs for the Queensland Wine Industry delivering a Bachelor of Wine Science (in conjunction with Charles Sturt University) and a Bachelor of Business (Wine Tourism). These programs include residential components at QCWT.

Growing a diverse economy and creating jobs

In 2004 the Queensland Government established the Wine Industry Development Division within the Department of Tourism, Regional Development & Industry in recognition of importance of the industry to the Queensland economy. In 2005, Cabinet endorsed the Wine Industry Development Strategy.

The Wine Industry Development Strategy Progress recognised the importance of QCWT in building industry capacity as well as the significance of the Gateway Schools program in facilitating industry sustainability.

In 2008, the College, through its education partners and associated Gateway Schools program is providing specialist training in wine tourism to several hundred secondary students across 13 schools, more than 60 TAFE students and 30 wine science undergraduates.
Services
Encourage world-class research that builds on Queensland's unique resources
Equipped with teaching winery and post-graduate/research laboratory in addition to two undergraduate laboratories, the College is a centre for wine industry research. The University of Southern Queensland's faculty of sciences is already conducting research designed to enhance Queensland wine production. This research is supported by funding grants achieved in collaboration with the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.
The College and USQ have established links with the Australian Wine Research Institute which will see collaborative research initiatives with particular emphases on Queensland issues.
Wine and grape analysis service
In 2008 the college commenced a grape and wine analysis service to support the industry. The range of analyses offered is as follows:

- Glucose + fructose

- Alcohol (Ebulliometry)
- Alcohol (Distillation/hydrometry)
