1.  I have an Apple Mac – can I use TRIM?

 Yes - there are two options:

  1. TRIM can be installed on your Mac if you have Parallels software or something similar.  TRIM will need to be installed in the Windows 7 environment in Parallels.  It will function as normal in this environment.
  2. You can access TRIM online using TRIM Web Client.  There are some limitations,  but if this option interests you please contact the TRIM Help Desk for more information.

2.  My documents don’t open in Word, Excel, etc.

When this happens it means that TRIM has opened the document in the Trim Document Viewer, rather than the native application for the file type (e.g.  docx, xls, etc.).

You will need to reset the Get Global function:

  • Open TRIM – Go to Tools – Click on Options
  • In the new Window that opens click on ‘Get Global’ down the bottom of the window
  • A warning message will appear  – click OK

3.  I’ve sent a document to the wrong folder in TRIM

You can move it to the correct folder yourself!  Find the record number of the correct folder that you want to send the document to and make note of it.  Right mouse click on the document you are moving- Go to Properties – In the File Folder (Container) box type in the correct record number that you made note of – Click OK. If the classification is higher than the existing folder you may get a warning message – Click OK.  The document has now moved to the correct folder.

4.  My folder titles look different to what I have called them?

The column headings are displaying the structured Title and will need to be changed.  Right mouse click on the column headings – go to format columns – in the Displayed Columns highlight Title – click Remove.  In the Available Columns list, scroll down until you see Title (Free Text Part) – Highlight – click on Add – move it up or down using the buttons in order to place it in the order you want to see it in TRIM.  Click OK.

5.  I have titled my folder/document incorrectly – how can I fix it?

Highlight the folder or document – Right mouse click – Click on Properties – Go to the Title (Free Text Part) box – highlight text to rename or edit – Click OK.

6.  I sent the wrong document/email to TRIM – how do I delete it?

Unfortunately you cannot delete any items in TRIM.  If you need a document or folder deleted contact the TRIM Help Desk.

7.  I can’t find a document that I have just sent to TRIM

Sometimes there is a time lag when you enter something into TRIM and when you search for something.  You may need to allow approximately 15-20 minutes.  You can however, search by record number at any time and the search will be successful.
