USQ institutional biosafety ethics process

Step 1

Prior to preparing proposals you should first contact the Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee  to determine which category your research would fall. The categories are:

  • exempt (a proposal must still be submitted to the IBC)
  • notifiable low risk dealing (NRLD)
  • licensed dealing not for intentional release (DNIR)
  • licensed dealings for intentional release (DIR)
  • All projects involving GMOs or materials subject to the OGTE regulations must proceed via the IBC.

Step 2

The Chair will advise what application form from the Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) will be required and guidelines and advice will be given to complete them.

Step 3

Once you have completed the application form, you should contact the Office of Research and Higher Degrees and submit your application to:

Step 4

The Office of Research and Higher Degrees will forward your application on to the Institutional Biosafety Committee for recommendation.
