Institutional Biosafety ethics process

Step 1

Prior to preparing proposals you should first contact the Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee  (IBC) to determine which category your research would fall under. The categories are:

  • exempt (a proposal must still be submitted to the IBC)
  • notifiable low risk dealing (NLRD)
  • licensed dealing not for intentional release (DNIR)
  • licensed dealings for intentional release (DIR)
  • all projects involving GMOs or materials subject to the OGTR regulations must proceed via the IBC.

Step 2

The Chair will advise you as to which OGTR form will be required, and guidelines and advice will be given to you to complete them.

Step 3

Once you have completed the application form, you should contact the Office of Research and Higher Degrees and submit your application to:

Ethics Officer
Office of Research
University of Southern Queensland
Toowoomba QLD 4350

Step 4

The Office of Research will forward your application on to the IBC for recommendation.
