Business intelligence
The ability to make timely, evidence-based decisions is vital to the effective management of the University. A Business Intelligence (BI) platform with its underlying data warehouse, is an essential component of the University’s ability to deliver in this area.
The USQ’s BI platform sustains and strengthens the business performance of the University by providing a robust base for informed decision making – decisions that are supported by evidences rather than gut feel. The environment creates a framework that transform disparate data into comprehensive knowledge of the University’s critical business information.
The DW/BI platform also provides valuable tool sets for long term strategic direction planning. The platform will change over time to meet business requirements and is also expected to remain within the University over an extended period of time. BI Centre is the gateway to the business intelligence platform development using a number of modern analytic elements. Components of the BI Centre include dashboards, scorecards, excel reports and many more.
The five key organizational data areas that integrate into the BI Centre include:
- Student (census, current and revised)
- Staff (workforce structure, casuals, payrolls)
- Facility Management (space and room bookings)
- Research
- Finance.
The services offered by the section in this area are:
- train staff on the how the systems work
- interpret information coming out of the BI Centre
- develop BI applications.
