Digger Thelander Scholarship

Digger Thelander was a great friend to USQ. His wife, Barbara, and the family, have helped to carry out one of his wishes: that a scholarship be set-up in his name to help future USQ students in the pursuit of their academic endeavours. This scholarship will be awarded to a performing arts undergraduate, as Digger was a fan of the arts, particularly at USQ.

Scholarship Value

The scholarship will be valued at $5,000 each year for the duration of the recipient's undergraduate degree at USQ. This will be paid in a stipend of $2,500 per semester after the last date to drop courses for each semester.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • start their studies at USQ, full-time (unless exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Semester One 2010.

Conditions

  • Applicants must be undertaking a program in the performing arts within the Faculty of Arts.
  • Applicants must maintain a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (unless exceptional personal circumstances apply).
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their scholarship assisting to promote USQ.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • USQ and the Thelander family reserve the right to alter the conditions of this scholarship based upon an applicant's circumstances.
  • Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.

Selection Criteria

Applicants:

  • should demonstrate a high level of commitment to their community and/or school arts program; and
  • who were actively involved in extra-curricular or community activities are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must complete the USQ Scholarship Application Form (PDF* 117KB) and forward the application to the Scholarship Officer, Student Services, USQ, Toowoomba, QLD 4350. Applicants completing their Year 12 studies in 2009 must also provide a Statement of Support (PDF* 643KB)

Short listed applicants will be interviewed by a panel.
