Scholarship

USQ in 2010 will offer one Ambrosiussen Accountants Scholarship to an undergraduate student continuing full-time on campus study at USQ Toowoomba Campus. The Scholarship is awarded in the first Semester to a second or third year student of either a Commerce and Business degrees with Accounting major or combined studies in Commerce and IT with an Accounting major.
Ambrosiussen Accountants & Advisors Pty Ltd was established in Toowoomba in 1988 and has a culture that is based on integrity, honesty and trust. Their focus is small business, and in the future they intend to continue to refine their product and quality of practice to provide the most exceptional service possible to small business owners. Due to a high level of growth in the business, they are in regular need of quality new team members. As they have a policy of promoting from within the practice, they are in need of bright young people with energy and enthusiasm who can grasp new concepts quickly. Employment is not guaranteed at the end of the Scholarship period however, if the student demonstrates an ability to grasp concepts quickly they may be offered a part-time or full-time position pending the organizations requirements.

Scholarship value

The student who is awarded the Scholarship will receive $3,500 for the year. This will be paid in a stipend of $1,750 per semester. In addition, the successful applicant will be able to participate in 30 days of work experience (15 days per semester) for the year as mutually arranged. During this time they gain invaluable experience in a real workplace environment, and can improve their inter-personal skills.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status;
  • continue their studies at USQ, full-time, on-campus, in Toowoomba, beginning Semester One 2010;
  • be studying Bachelor degrees of Commerce and/or Business in their second or third year of study for 2010, in the areas of Accounting, Commerce and/or IT;
  • must submit a brief essay (300 words) explaining how this Scholarship will assist them to achieve their future plans; and
  • demonstrate a history of involvement with their local community in any social / sporting / educational / work based / charitable / extracurricular context.

Conditions

  • The Scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $1,750 per semester after the last date to drop courses for each semester.
  • The duration of the Scholarship if for one year.
  • Applications must be received by the closing date and in writing.
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate in 30 days work experience (15 days per semester) as mutually agreed upon between Ambrosiussen Accountants and the
  • Scholarship recipient within the year of the Scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their Scholarship assisting to promote USQ as required by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
  • Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
  • Maximum of six short-listed applicants.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • The Scholarship will be forfeited if, during the Scholarship period, the recipient;
    • changes their mode of study from on-campus to external or enrols in less than four study units per semester, unless exceptional circumstances prevent full time study;
    • defers their program of study;
    • withdraws from study at USQ;
    • changes their program outside of Commerce and Business degrees and/or combined studies in IT (all with an Accounting major); and
    • fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0.
    • One Scholarship will be awarded each year to the applicants deemed most outstanding by the Scholarship selection panel. The decision of the panel is final.
    • Ambrosiussen Accountants Pty Ltd and USQ reserve the right to not award the Scholarship in a given year if the applications are deemed to be unsuitable.

    Selection criteria

    Applicants must:

    • meet the eligibility requirements outlined above;
    • have a strong intellectual ability witnessed by a high Grade Point Average;
    • have good communication skills - both verbal and written;
    • have a keen interest in applied accounting;
    • exhibit drive and a strong work ethic;
    • be team-oriented, and able to relate well to others;
    • be teachable and responsive to direction; and
    • have a desire to stay in Toowoomba
