City of Ipswich Scholarship

The Ipswich City Council will make available a scholarship to encourage continuation of study in an undergraduate degree program at USQ Springfield. The scholarship is awarded to a meritorious student entering the second year of full-time on-campus study at USQ Springfield in 2009.

Scholarship Value

The City of Ipswich Scholarship will have a value of $5,000.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be a resident of the Ipswich/Moreton region encompassing Ipswich city, Esk, Laidley and Boonah shires
  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident studying full-time for an undergraduate degree at USQ
  • be about to enter their second full-time year of the program at USQ Springfield in 2009.

Conditions

  • The duration of the scholarship is one year.
  • The scholarship is awarded for the second year of the recipient's degree program, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
  • The scholarship cannot be held concurrently with any other similar scholarship or bursary.
  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient in two instalments of $2,500 each. The first instalment will be paid to the recipient as soon as possible after the Semester One 2009 census date, and the second as soon as possible after the Semester Two 2009 census date.
  • Payment of the second instalment will be subject to satisfactory progress in the recipient's study program.
  • A recipient failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress during the year may be required to show cause why the scholarship should not be cancelled.
  • The scholarship will be cancelled if:
    • the recipient fails to maintain a GPA of at least 5.0 in each semester of the program
    • the recipient enrols in less than three study units per semester for the scholarship period, unless exceptional circumstances prevent full-time study
      or
    • the recipient defers or withdraws from their program of study during the scholarship period.
  • The holder of the scholarship may be offered a vacation placement at a site advised by the Ipswich City Council. Each offer will be for a minimum period as determined by the Council in consultation with the Dean of the faculty in which the student is studying.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in the first year of the degree program, with a GPA of at least 5.0 in each semester
  • demonstrate sound academic achievements or awards within studies at USQ or any other secondary or tertiary institution
  • have been actively involved in community, sporting and social activities within the Ipswich region
  • show how the scholarship will assist in meeting their career aspirations.

To assist in the selection process, the Scholarships Officer will convene a selection committee whose membership will include representatives of Ipswich City Council. Short listed applicants may be asked to attend an interview.
