Don and Barbara Stevens Scholarship
USQ will offer a scholarship to an undergraduate student commencing full-time on-campus study at USQ Toowoomba campus in 2009.
Don Stevens was the Chancellor at USQ for 10 years (1996 – 2006), and he and his wife, Barbara, worked tirelessly to forward the aims and goals of the University. In 2006, the USQ Council voted to create this scholarship in honour of Don and Barbara’s dedicated service to the University.
Scholarship value
Each scholarship will have a total value of $15,000. This will be paid in a stipend of $625 per study unit for a maximum of 4 years.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
-
be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
-
start their studies in an undergraduate degree program at USQ Toowoomba, full-time (except if exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Semester One 2009.
Conditions
-
Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their scholarship assisting to promote USQ as required by Marketing and Public Relations.

The scholarship will be forfeited if:
-
the recipient changes their mode of study from on-campus to external, or enrols in less than three study units per semester. The exceptions are students who fast track their program and must complete one or two units in their final semester, or students who encounter exceptional personal circumstances that prevent full-time study
-
the recipient defers their program of study
-
the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
-
the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.5.

The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $625 per study unit after the last date to drop courses for each Semester.

Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.

USQ reserves the right to not award all or some of the scholarship in a given year.

Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.

Maximum of six short-listed applicants.

One scholarship will be awarded each year to the most outstanding applicant enrolling at the Toowoomba campus.
Selection criteria
Applicants must:
-
have achieved an OP 1 or 2 (or equivalent for interstate applicants)or have a high level of achievement in other post-secondary studies and
-
have been actively involved in extra-curricular and community activities and
-
meet the eligibility requirements for this scholarship.

Complete the USQ Scholarship Application Form 2009 (PDF 122 KB) and forward it to the Scholarships Officer, Student Services, University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD 4350.
Applicants completing their Year 12 studies in 2008 must also attach a Statement of Support (PDF 262 KB) with their application.
