Goondiwindi Bursary

USQ will offer a scholarship to a Year 12 school leaver commencing full-time on-campus study at USQ Toowoomba campus in 2009. The scholarship will be awarded to an applicant from the Goondiwindi and surrounding district.

This scholarship was inspired by Margot and John Cory and Phyllis Gore.

Scholarship value

The Goondiwindi Bursary will have a value of $6,000. The Bursary will be provided in instalments of $2,000 per year in the case of a three-year program, and $1,500 per year in the case of a four-year program.

The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend after the last date to drop Semester One courses.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • have completed Year 12 in the previous year
  • start their studies at USQ, full-time (except if exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Semester One 2009
  • have their principal residential address in Goondiwindi and surrounding district, defined by post codes – 4390, 4388, 4498 and 4496.

Conditions

  • Applicants must enrol as a full-time student in their first year of study at USQ.
  • The Goondiwindi Bursary will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes his or her mode of study from on-campus to external
    • the recipient enrols in less than three study units per semester for the Bursary period, unless exceptional circumstances prevent full-time study
    • the recipient defers his or her program of study during the Bursary period
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
    • the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 4.5 during the Bursary period.
    • Bursaries are not transferable to other students.
    • USQ will have the right not to award the Bursary in any given year.
    • The recipient may be asked to participate in focus group research.
    • One Bursary will be awarded to the applicant deemed most deserving by the selection panel. The decision of the selection panel is final.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • have a high level of achievement in Year 12
  • meet the eligibility requirements for this Bursary
  • demonstrate that they would find it difficult to pursue on-campus full time study because of financial constraints
  • articulate in their written statement a desire to study at USQ.
