Faculty of Engineering and Surveying Indigenous Student Scholarship

The Faculty of Engineering and Surveying will offer one scholarship to a full-time on-campus Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student enrolling in any undergraduate degree program offered by the Faculty in 2009.

Scholarship value

The scholarship will have a value of $8,000. The scholarship will be awarded for one year at $4,000 initially. Scholarships can be extended to a second year if the recipient maintains a grade point average of 5 or greater.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent1
  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • have met the subject pre-requisites for entry to the relevant program
  • have a high level of academic achievement, but consideration will also be given to other school, community or sporting activities
  • commence their studies with USQ in Semester One 2009.

1Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must substantiate his/her Aboriginality. An applicant who is a recipient of ABSTUDY, or who is a registered Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ATAS) student is eligible to apply. Alternatively, substantiation can be provided by submitting a certification of Aboriginality in the form of a statutory declaration, or in the form of an official letter from either:

  • the Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges at USQ, based on previous documentation on file
  • an official representative of the Torres Strait Islands Regional Authority (TSIRA), or The Board or Committee of an incorporated Torres Strait Islander community organisation.

Conditions

  • Applicants for all undergraduate degree programs offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying, where the University of Southern Queensland confers the award, are eligible for the scholarship.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their program of study to a degree program offered outside the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying at USQ
    • the recipient cancels their enrolment in the program.
  • Where the recipient changes their program of study to another degree program offered by the Faculty, the scholarship will be retained.
  • The scholarship will be paid to the student as a stipend.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students under any circumstances.
  • The Faculty reserves the right not to award the scholarship in a given year.

Complete the USQ Scholarship Application Form 2009 (PDF* 122 KB) and forward it to the Scholarships Officer, Student Services, University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD 4350.

Applicants completing their Year 12 studies or a preparation program in 2008 must also provide a Statement of Support 2009 (PDF 262 KB).
