Distance Education Study Support Scholarships

USQ will offer 20 scholarships for students studying a bachelor degree by distance education in 2009. These scholarships will be awarded to:

  • students commencing distance education in 2009 (10 scholarships)
  • students currently enrolled via distance education (10 scholarships).

Scholarship value

Each scholarship will have a value of $1,000.  This scholarship provides for two different award options:

  1. $500 paid in Semester One, and again in Semester Two, after the last date to drop courses in each semester
  2. $1,000 book bursary at USQ Bookshop.

Short-listed applicants who do not receive a distance education study support scholarship or other scholarships will receive a $500 bursary paid after the last date to drop Semester One courses.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • start their Distance Education studies in a bachelor degree at USQ in Semester One 2009, or be currently enrolled in a bachelor degree by distance education in 2008.

Conditions

  • Currently enrolled distance education students may apply at any point in their degree program.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their mode of study from external to on-campus study
    • the recipient defers their program of study
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
    • the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.5.
  • Any funds awarded will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $250 per study unit after the last date to drop Semester One courses, and again for Semester Two courses and Semester Three (Summer Semester) courses, if applicable.
  • Any unused funds will be forfeited at the completion of the 2009 academic year.
  • The $1,000 book bursary option will remain valid for 2009 only.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • USQ reserves the right to not award all or some of the scholarships in a given year.
  • The maximum value of this scholarship is $1,000.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • have made a significant contribution to their community through volunteer activities and/or engagement in a community organisation that assists others
  • demonstrate financial hardship that may adversely affect the completion of their degree program by distance education and
  • have a high level of achievement in Year 12, or have a high level of achievement in their previous USQ studies.

Complete the USQ Scholarship Application Form 2009 (PDF 122 KB) and forward it to the Scholarships Officer, Student Services, University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD 4350.

Currently enrolled USQ students must indicate their student number and the academic program in which they are currently enrolled (for example, Bachelor of Business).
