School Partners Program Scholarships

USQ will offer nine School Partners Program Scholarships for students commencing full-time on-campus study at USQ. Three scholarships will be offered to students from each of the following:

  • a school that is a partner in the USQ Priority Plus School Partners Program at USQ Fraser Coast
  • a school that is a partner in the USQ Priority Plus School Partners Program at USQ Springfield
  • a school in the Darling Downs region that is a member of the Toowoomba Education Coalition.

These scholarships will be offered in recognition of the partner schools’ involvement in USQ initiatives, and to provide maximum opportunity for students from these schools to start tertiary study at one of USQ’s campuses.

Scholarship value

Each scholarship will have a total value of $6,000. This will be paid in a stipend of $250 per study unit for a maximum of four years.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • have completed Year 12 in 2008 at a high school participating in the USQ Priority Plus School Partners Program or the Toowoomba Education Coalition
  • be applying for entry to a degree program on-campus at one of the three USQ campuses in Semester One 2009.

Conditions

  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient as a stipend of $250 per study unit after the last date to drop Semester One courses, and again for Semester Two courses and Semester Three (Summer Semester) courses, if applicable.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their mode of study from on-campus to external, or enrols in less than three study units per semester. The exceptions are students who fast track their program and must complete one or two units in their final semester, or students who encounter exceptional personal circumstances that prevent full-time study
    • the recipient defers their program of study
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
    • the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.5.
  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $250 per study unit after the last date to drop Semester One courses and Semester Two courses.
  • Recipients who defer their program of study with USQ during 2009 may take up their scholarship upon commencement of their studies.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their scholarship assisting to promote USQ. Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
  • The total value of this scholarship is $6,000 for study undertaken within a maximum four year period.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • have a sound level of achievement in Year 12
  • have experienced a taste of USQ during their high school years and be able to show that they have taken part in USQ events or USQ study opportunities (such as Head Start, workshops, guest lectures)
  • demonstrate how taking part in USQ activities has influenced their decision to undertake tertiary study
  • have made a significant contribution to their community through volunteer activities and/or engagement in a community organisation that assists others.
