John Ross Clancy Indigenous Student Book Bursary

USQ will offer two John Ross Clancy Indigenous Student Book Bursaries for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students commencing full-time, on-campus study at USQ in 2009.  These bursaries will be open to students from all three USQ campuses.

Bursary Value

Each bursary will have a value of $750 for the first year of the recipients’ studies.  The bursary will be paid in a sum of $375 per semester after the last date to drop courses in each semester.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status;
  • start their studies at USQ, full-time (except if exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Fraser Coast, Springfield  or Toowoomba, in Semester One 2009;
  • students demonstrating financial need will receive a higher preference for these bursaries; and
  • submit a brief essay explaining how this bursary will assist them to achieve their future goals.

Conditions

  • The bursary will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $375 in semester one, and again in semester two after the last date to drop courses.
  • Bursaries are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • USQ reserves the right to not award either of the bursaries in a given year.
  • The bursary will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their mode of study from on-campus to external or enrols in less than three study units per semester;
    • the recipient defers their program of study; or
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ;
  • Bursary recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours during the year of their bursary assisting to promote USQ as required by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
  • Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
  • Maximum of eight short-listed applicants.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

  • have a high level of achievement in Year 12 or other post-secondary studies as applicable;
  • have been actively involved in extra-curricular and community activities; and
  • demonstrate financial hardship by providing supporting documentation

Complete the USQ Scholarship Application Form 2009 (PDF 122 KB) and forward it to the Scholarships Officer, Student Services, University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba QLD 4350.

Applicants completing their year 12 studies in 2008 must also provide a Statement of Support (PDF 262 KB).
