Clifford Gouldson Law Scholarship
USQ will in 2010 offer one Clifford Gouldson Law Scholarship to an undergraduate student commencing full-time on campus study at USQ Toowoomba Campus pursuing a degree in Law or a combined degree in Commerce and Law or Business and Law.
Clifford Gouldson Lawyers is a Toowoomba firm which was established in early 2006. The firm specialises in the areas of Work Place Law, Commercial Litigation, Privacy Law and Intellectual Property Law.
Scholarship Value
Each Scholarship will have a value of $3,000 per year for the duration of the student’s studies at USQ, unless they change their major outside of one of the areas of study set out below in “Conditions”. This will be paid in a stipend of $1,500 per semester after the last date to drop Semester One courses and again for Semester Two courses
In addition, the successful applicant will be able to participate in 5 days of work experience with Clifford Gouldson Lawyers each year they receive this scholarship. This enables the student to gain real life working experience in a local established law firm.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status;
- start their studies at USQ, full-time (except if exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Toowoomba, beginning Semester One 2010;
- be studying degree in Law or a combined degree in Commerce and Law or Business and Law at USQ Toowoomba Campus;
- demonstrate financial need; and
- submit a brief essay explaining how this Scholarship will assist them to achieve their future plans.
Conditions
- The Scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient in a nominated bank account, by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $1,500 per semester after the last date to drop courses for each semester.
- The duration of the Scholarship if for one year.
- Applications must be received by the closing date and in writing.
- Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate in 5 days work experience each year they receive this scholarship as mutually agreed upon between Clifford Gouldson and the Scholarship recipient within the year of the Scholarship.
- Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their Scholarship assisting to promote USQ as required by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
- Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
- Maximum of six short-listed applicants.
- Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
- The Scholarship will be forfeited if, during the Scholarship period, the recipient;
- changes their mode of study from on-campus to external or enrols in less than four study units per semester, unless exceptional circumstances prevent full time study;
- defers their program of study;
- withdraws from study at USQ;
- changes their program outside of Law or the combined Commerce and Law or Business and Law degree programs; and
- fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0.
- One Scholarship will be awarded each year to the applicants deemed most outstanding by the Scholarship selection panel. The decision of the panel is final.
- Clifford Gouldson and USQ reserve the right to not award the Scholarship in a given year.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must:
- meet the eligibility requirements outlined above;
- have a high level of achievement in Year 12 or other post-secondary studies as applicable;
- been actively involved in extra-curricular and community activities;
- demonstrate financial hardship by providing supporting documentation; and
- be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Law or a combined degree in Commerce and Law or Business and Law
