South Queensland Law Scholarship

In 2009, USQ will offer one South Queensland Law Scholarship (formerly known as Meibusch Munro Maguire Law Scholarship) to an undergraduate student commencing full-time or part-time on-campus study at USQ Toowoomba Campus pursuing a degree in Law.

Scholarship Value

The scholarship will have a maximum value of $4,000 per year for a student’s studies at USQ Toowoomba.  The scholarship will be paid in a stipend of $500 per course, in an amount of no more than $2,000 per semester after the last date to drop Semester One courses, and again for Semester Two courses.

In addition, the successful applicant will be asked to engage in five days of work experience with South Queensland Law.  The dates for this work experience will be mutually agreed upon by the recipient of the scholarship and the Donor.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must:
  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • have a high level of academic achievement in their high school or post secondary studies
  • start their studies at USQ, full-time or part-time, on-campus, in Toowoomba, beginning Semester One
  • be pursuing a bachelors degree in Law at USQ Toowoomba Campus
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be an Indigenous Australian or from Torres Strait Islands or be from a  Non-English Speaking Background or be from a rural area within Queensland or be a student with a disability.

Conditions

  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of up to $2,000 per semester ($500 per enrolled course each semester) after the last date to drop courses for each Semester.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • USQ reserves the right to not award all or some of the scholarship in a given year.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their mode of study from on-campus to external
    • the recipient defers their program of study
    • the recipient changes their degree program outside of Law
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
    • the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0.
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their scholarship assisting to promote USQ, as required by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
  • Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
  • Maximum of six short-listed applicants.
  • One scholarship will be awarded each year to the most outstanding applicant from USQ Toowoomba campus.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • Meet the eligibility requirements
  • be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Law at USQ Toowoomba
  • include an 800 word essay on how this scholarship will assist them in achieving their future goals.

Applicants completing their year 12 studies must also provide a Statement of Support (PDF 262 KB).
