McNamara & Associates Law Scholarship

In 2009 USQ will offer one McNamara & Associates Law Scholarship to an undergraduate student commencing full-time on-campus study at USQ Springfield Campus pursuing a degree in Law.

McNamara & Associates Lawyers is an Ipswich firm which has been operating for more than 70 years, with offices located in Ipswich and Gatton.  The firm specialises in the areas of Personal Injury Litigation, Commercial Law, Conveyance, Family and Commercial Law, and Wills and Estates.

Scholarship Value

The scholarship will have a value of $4,000 for one year of the student’s studies at USQ Springfield.  The scholarship will be paid in a stipend of $2,000 per semester after the last date to drop Semester One courses, and again for Semester Two courses.

In addition, the successful applicant will be asked to complete five days of work experience with McNamara & Associates Lawyers.  The dates for this work experience will be mutually agreed upon by the recipient of the scholarship and the donor of this scholarship.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be citizens of Australia or have permanent resident status
  • start their studies at USQ, full-time (except if exceptional personal circumstances prevent full-time study), on-campus, in Springfield, beginning Semester One
  • be pursuing a degree in Law at USQ Springfield Campus
  • live in the Greater Ipswich, Gatton or Lockyer Valley regions
  • demonstrate financial need
  • submit a brief essay explaining how this scholarship will assist them to achieve their future plans.

Conditions

  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient by electronic funds transfer (EFT) as a stipend of $2,000 per semester after the last date to drop courses for each Semester.
  • Scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances.
  • USQ reserves the right to not award all or some of the scholarship in a given year.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if:
    • the recipient changes their mode of study from on-campus to external or enrols in less than three study units per semester
    • the recipient defers their program of study
    • the recipient changes their degree program outside of Law
    • the recipient withdraws from study at USQ
    • the recipient fails to maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0.
  • Scholarship recipients may be asked to serve 20 hours each year of their scholarship assisting to promote USQ, as required by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
  • Recipients may be asked to participate in focus group research.
  • Maximum of six short-listed applicants.
  • One scholarship will be awarded each year to the most outstanding applicant from USQ Springfield campus.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • have a high level of achievement in Year 12 or other post-secondary studies, as applicable
  • have been actively involved in extra-curricular and community activities
  • demonstrate financial hardship by providing supporting documentation
  • be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Law at USQ Springfield.

Applicants completing their year 12 studies must also provide a Statement of Support (PDF 262 KB).
