Faculty of Business Scholarship in Health Informatics

The Health Informatics Group in the Faculty of Business in USQ is well known for its innovative technologies in the domain of telehealth. This group is currently managing three national competitive grants in addition to a number of other health grants. The group currently has 10 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students and 3 Post Doctorate fellows in Health informatics research group. In addition the group has a market officer and a project officer.

In order to accomplish some of the project goals, we are seeking a PhD candidate in:

PhD candidate in Allied Health Technology

We are seeking a candidate who has an Electronics Engineering or Health Information Systems background. This student will work with a team of ICT professionals to convert user requirements for an allied technology into a prototype design.The candidate must be research ready as we have tight timelines to complete the projects. Therefore, students with Master's qualification through research would be welcomed. The candidates are expected to study full-time, on campus at USQ Toowoomba campus. This candidate will work in a team environment. In addition to academic qualifications, high levels of interpersonal as well as communication skills are essential. The student will receive $25,000 tax free stipend for a period of three years from commencement.

Scholarship value

Australian Postgraduate Awards - Industry carry a yearly stipend of $26,000 per annum to the successful applicant. Payments are made on a fortnightly basis over the year. The period of tenure of an award is three years for doctorate. Periods of study already undertaken towards the degree will be deducted from the period of tenure.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible to be enrolled full-time in a Higher Degree by Research at the University of Southern Queensland
  • not previously have held an Australian Government-funding postgraduate research scholarship
  • not be in receipt of similar funding from the Australian Government
  • commence the degree by the date set by the University or the scholarship may be  withdrawn and reallocated to another applicant.

Conditions

  • the scholarship will be paid directly to the student on a fortnightly basis
  • the successful candidate is permitted up to eight (8) hours per week of paid work. Work must not interfere with the student's work program
  • scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances
  • the scholarship will be forfeited if the recipient cancels enrolment in the program at the University of Southern Queensland
  • the scholarship will be forfeited should the student transfer to another institution
  • payment of the scholarship is subject to an annual review and may be terminated if performance is unsatisfactory

Selection Criteria

  • have applied for enrolment or be enrolled (for not more than 6 months) in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program full-time on-campus at USQ
  • meet the eligibility requirements
  • demonstrate outstanding research potential
  • include a two page summary of your research interests and experiences
  • scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, research capacity and relevance of proposed research to the area of sustainable business
  • projects involving human or animal experimentation, including social/psychological research, must conform to NHMRC guidelines and ethical clearance will be required prior to commencement of any such project.
