The Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund

This fund has been established to assist members of the defence forces and direct descendants of members of the defence force to aid with their research study. This fund provides a stipend of $4000 per year over two years.

Scholarship value

The Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund carries an award of $4000 per year over two years.  This scholarship is paid annually each year and must be used for the pursuit of successful applicant's degree.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be enrolled full-time in a Higher Degree by Research at the University of Southern Queensland 
  • be a member of the Australian Armed Forces of a be a direct lineal descendant of a member of the Australian Armed Forces
  • commence the degree by the date specified by the University of Southern Queensland.

Conditions

  • Applications must be received by the closing date and in writing on the USQ application form provided. In addition, two academic referee’s reports must be submitted
  • the scholarship will be paid as per the wishes of the Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund
  • proof of military service or being a direct lineal descendant of a member of the Australian Armed Forces must be attached
  • scholarships are not transferable to other students in any circumstances
  • the scholarship will be forfeited if the recipient cancels his or her enrolment in the program at the University of Southern Queensland

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • have applied for enrolment or currently enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Masters by Research program full-time on-campus at USQ
  • meet the eligibility requirements
  • demonstrate outstanding research potential
  • scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, research capacity and relevance of proposed research to USQ’s areas of research concentration
  • projects involving human or animal experimentation, including social/psychological research, must conform to NH&MRC guidelines and ethical clearance will be required prior to commencement of any such project.

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must complete an application form (Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund 2009 PDF 128kb) and two Academic Referee’s reports must also be submitted.  The original copy must be submitted to:

Closing Date

Completed application forms and referee report forms must be forwarded to reach the Office of Research and Higher Degrees, USQ and the Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund not later than 5 pm on 31 October 2008.
