I’ve always liked the idea of being selected to receive an academic scholarship and after a quick search of the USQ website I was pretty excited to see that I was actually eligible. It wasn’t long after that, that I applied for the Gary Moore Memorial Scholarship for Marketing and went through the application and interview process. It was a great learning experience that helped prepare me for the nerve wracking job applications and interviews that awaited me after graduation.
The Scholarship was worth a lot more to me than just the financial assistance, I really appreciated the amazing people I met at Heritage and being offered the, often unattainable, work experience in my field. The cash gave me great breathing space financially and enabled me to reduce my part time work hours so I could focus on my studies and still manage a great social life.
I am currently the Marketing Manager for the Surat Basin Corporation, which is in effect a regional chamber of commerce and regional development organisation for the Surat Basin region. I would never have got this level of job, so fast without my degree. My degree helped me realise what it is that I enjoy doing, gave me practical and theoretical knowledge in how to do it well and now I have a job that I love, where every day holds something new and challenging.
My advice to anyone looking at studying at USQ or applying for a scholarship is the same, “You have nothing to lose by giving it your best shot”.
