Scholarships (Fee free places)

USQ has a commitment to assist those from under-represented groups access to tertiary education. Currently, up to 1000 equity scholarships (a fee free place in the program) are available to applicants who can demonstrate their eligibility on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Gender bias
  • Geographic isolation
  • Non-English speaking background
  • Physical disability
  • Socio-Economic/Financial grounds
  • Other Circumstances, example past emotional trauma, extenuating circumstances preventing completion of schooling etc.

1Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must substantiate his/her Aboriginality. An applicant who is a recipient of ABSTUDY, or who is a registered Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ATAS) student is eligible to apply. Alternatively, substantiation can be provided by submitting a certification of Aboriginality in the form of a statutory declaration, or in the form of an official letter from either:

  • the Centre for Australian Indigenous Knowledges or Buallum Jarl-Bah Higher Education Centre based on previous documentation on file
  • an official representative of the Torres Strait Islands Regional Authority (TSIRA), or The Board or Committee of an incorporated Torres Strait Islander community organisation.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency status
  • have reached the age of 18 in the year of enrolment in the program.

There is no specified minimum educational entrance standard.

Conditions

  • All applicants are required to complete placement tests in Communications and Mathematics.
  • The scholarship will be forfeited if the recipient does not demonstrate active participation in the program.
