McConachie Stedman Accounting Scholarship

 In 2014, USQ will offer one McConachie Stedman Accounting Scholarship.

McConachie Stedman was founded by John F McConachie in Toowoomba in 1948, and they are taxation and business advisers to a large range of clients across all fields of commerce. Their highly computerised practice operates from the central business district of Toowoomba, although offices are maintained at St George and Crows Nest on a regular basis. They offer the entire range of business services, from taxation, audit and management, through to financial planning, lending and insurance services. Consequently, the successful candidate will have exposure to a wide range of experience.


The scholarship will have a maximum value of $5,000.

In addition the successful applicant will be offered paid vocational work of 4 weeks, in the year of the award as mutually arranged. This allows the student to gain invaluable real work experience within an established accounting firm.

The recipient may be offered employment with the firm.


To be eligible applicants must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or have permanent resident status 
  • continue their studies in a Bachelor of Commerce or Business with an Accounting major or combined study in Commerce and Information Technology with an Accounting major in Semester 1, 2014 
  • be entering into the third year of their degree (completed 16 courses successfully) 
  • be enrolled at Toowoomba campus 
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 2 study units in each of Semester 1 and Semester 2 
  • be studying on-campus, external or online.

Selection criteria

Applicants will:

  • submit a personal statement indicating: 
    • how the Scholarship will assist them to achieve their future career plans 
    • a description of their career aims and goals. 
  • provide evidence of academic achievement demonstrating an application to study and learning
  • demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities within their local community.
