National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Bursary

In 2013 USQ will offer one National Association of Women in Construction Bursary.

Welcome to the Australian National Association of Women in Construction. Our Mission is: 

  • to raise the profile of women working in the construction industry 
  • to be a positive instrument for change in the construction industry 
  • to promote and share construction industry best practice 
  • to meet, support and network with other women in the construction industry.

From its beginning in 1995, NAWIC has striven to build a dynamic organisation which encourages and supports women in the construction and related affiliate industries. Our members have risen steadily over the years due to enhanced networking opportunities and the continuing development of member services and benefits.

Value

The Bursary will have a maximum value of $2,000.

The Bursary recipient will also receive a year’s free membership to NAWIC Queensland as part of their award.

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or have permanent resident status
  • be female 
  • continue their studies in a Bachelor of Construction in Semester 1, 2013 
  • be entering into the second or higher year of their degree 
  • be enrolled at Toowoomba or Springfield Campus 
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 3 study units in Semester 1 
  • be studying on-campus, external or online.

Selection criteria

Applicants will:

  • submit a personal statement: 
    • providing an explanation of what influences made you consider a career in a non-traditional field 
    • indicating what influences would now be more effective to encourage more school-aged females to consider non-traditional roles? 
    • describe any challenges (if any) you have had to overcome whilst pursuing a career in Engineering. 
  • provide evidence of academic achievement eg High School report card; or post-secondary academic history as applicable 
  • demonstrate a history of involvement within their school, extracurricular activities or within their local community 
  • provide evidence of financial hardship. Please refer to “Frequently asked questions – What documents should I attach to show financial hardship?

Applicants must also attach a Statement of Support (PDF 162KB) with their application signed by either an employer or independent referee (note that questions 1 and 2 on the Statement of Support form are not applicable for this scholarship).
