Arrow Energy USQ Indigenous Student Prize in Engineering

In 2013, USQ will offer eight Arrow Energy USQ Indigenous Student Prizes in Engineering, to students entering into Year 10 or Year 11.

Arrow Energy is one of the largest integrated energy companies in Australia with five gas producing projects in the Surat and Bowen Basins, ownership of one gas-fired power station and interests in two others. Arrow provides approximately 20 per cent of Queensland’s gas supply, most of which is used to generate electricity. Arrow is undertaking Coal Seam Gas (CSG) exploration activities across Queensland, and, as the international demand for cleaner energy increases, is developing a CSG to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Gladstone.

Arrow is committed to ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities benefit from our presence. One of the ways Arrow seeks to achieve this is by supporting the education of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through high school bursaries and tertiary students with scholarships.

Value

The prize will have a maximum value of $500.

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants must:

• be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status
• be Aboriginal Australian or Torres Strait Islander descent 
• be a student at High School level entering into Year 10 or Year 11 in 2013 
• be a student of a High School in the Surat Basin region.

Selection criteria

Applicants will:

• be undertaking the following subjects to ensure entry into an Engineering degree at USQ
  • Students entering Year 10 - minimum General Maths level
  • Students entering Year 11 - minimum Maths A level 
• submit a personal statement providing a description of their career aims and goals
• provide evidence of indigenous background
• be considering studying Engineering at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba or Springfield.
