Building Engagement and Aspirations through Mentoring in Schools (BEAMS)
About BEAMS
BEAMS is a voluntary peer mentoring program where USQ students visit local schools on a regular basis to interact and support students in a class room environment. This program enhances the skills and knowledge school students need to continue their education and training beyond secondary school.
Want to become a mentor?
If you are a USQ student and have completed 1 semester of study gaining a grade point average (GPA) of 4 or above, you can apply.
Once your application is accept you will need to apply for a Volunteer’s Blue Card. This Blue Card certifies that you are able to work with teenagers and children. Please note, if your application for a Blue Card is not accepted, you won't be able to participate in this program.
The final step is attending peer mentor training before you begin.

BEAMS mentors in local schools
If you would like to learn more about hosting BEAMS mentor within your school, the process is easy. Simply contact a BEAMS Project Officer and we will match a mentor to suit your school's needs.
A mentor is available to provide support in schools for up to 30years a day. The days and times the mentor is placed at your schools will be dependent on your school's needs and the mentor's availability.
BEAMS specialised projects
The BEAMS project also offers schools a range of specialised projects and conferences to participate in. Participation is free and the projects are based on the Australian National Curriculum. To find out more about the BEAMS specialised projects, please contact us.
